Our Story

On September 4, 2022, two Fawn Lake residents, Wayne and Judith Thompson, pledged to plant a church to serve residents of Fawn Lake and the surrounding area. They formed an exploratory committee that included eight other residents. Those committee members became the founding members when they incorporated Fawn Lake Church on December 29, 2022 and obtained its designation as a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity.
Fawn Lake Church held its first church meeting on February 15, 2023 during which twenty-seven attendees took the Fawn Lake Church New Member Pledge as charter members. The church worshiped on Wednesday evenings in the Thompsons’ home singing hymns and listening to recorded sermons. In May of 2022, FLC moved its worship to Sunday morning with guest speakers offering the sermons. When attendance outgrew the capacity of the Thompsons’ home in July of 2023, FLC moved its Sunday morning worship services to the Laurel Hill Chapel located on Plank Road in Spotsylvania County. The church continues to worship there on Sunday mornings.
In November 2025, FLC added a monthly Saturday evening worship service that meets in a Fawn Lake home. The service includes contemporary worship songs, a short message by the pastor, communion, and a light meal.
On November 5, 2023, FLC ordained Wayne Thompson and called him to serve as interim pastor. From February 2024 until August 2025, Rev. Thompson planned worship and delivered sermons for Sunday worship services. He also provided pastoral care for the members and community. In September 2025, the church called Kerry O’Neill as its part-time pastor. In February 2026, FLC amended that call to have Pastor O’Neill serve as full-time pastor.
In May 2024, an anonymous donor provided funding that enabled FLC to acquire a twelve-acre parcel of land located just outside the Fawn Lake neighborhood. The church immediately established a building fund to provide for the eventual construction of a permanent facility on that parcel that will support its worship and church programs. A special use permit from Spotsylvania County allowing the construction and operation of a church on the parcel is pending.
